Minimum Qualifications

  • You're currently reachable on the the appropriate eligible list for this title,
  • For 52.6 or 70.1 transfer to an Information Technology Specialist 3, salary grade (SG)-23, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-21 or above.

Duties 

  • Participate in the implementation of and technical support for specialized storage hardware and software (including installation, modification, and maintenance) related to enterprise storage infrastructure and data protection requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate storage and data protection systems’ performance in relation to customer requirements and service level agreements.
  • Respond to customer requests related to storage allocation, data protection deliverables (backups/restores), etc.
  • Assist in disaster recovery planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Keep management advised of unit activities and/or emerging issues.
  • Provide on-call support.
  • Review on-call support issues logs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve storage or data protection issues as reported through ServiceNow.
  • Supervise technical staff as appropriate.
  • Identify assignments, set work priorities, and help prepare realistic time estimates.
  • Assist staff in addressing technical and functional issues.
  • Participate in developing and preparing employee Performance Evaluation assessments and provide performance feedback at frequent intervals.
  • Participate in the development, organization, and scheduling of training activities for staff and new hires.
  • Ensure that timesheet, resource reporting, and ServiceNow queues are current.
  • Create documentation and procedures for new and existing processes.
  • Modify existing documentation as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in Storage Management (1 to 2 years).
  • Demonstrated experience in Linux (1 to 2 years).
  • Demonstrated experience with disaster recovery planning or implementation.
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to quickly master new information technology concepts using a variety of channels, including on-the-job learning, reading and research along with formal training.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Demonstrated initiative, independence, confidentiality, planning, communication, and organization.

Telecommuting

The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so. Upon approval to telecommute, OSC employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period.
